The Difference Between Lastics and Yoga
People ask me all the time if Lastics is yoga, or like yoga in anyway. The answer is no and there are several reasons why.
First, there is the mind/body piece. Yoga is tied to meditation where the mind connects to the body. Lastics is the opposite where the body connects to the mind. With Lastics your body guides your mind instead of your mind guiding the body. (It's a dance thing). This distinction creates an experience that is completely different from yoga.
With yoga you move from the outside. With Lastics you move on the inside. This is how we create such a deep stretch. It is much more about an individual's body in Lastics than it is about perfecting the universal poses (and transitions) unique to yoga.
We enlist energy in Lastics and awaken it. The energy is alive and active, deliberate and nuanced. (This is also a dance thing). Yoga focuses more on stabilizing energy through calming the mind and coordinating it with breath.
Both yoga and Lastics incorporate breath into the movement. We do it to cleanse the negative energy in your body and expand you into your own space.
Yoga is rooted in religion. Lastics is not. Lastics is 100% born from dance.
Yoga assumes a certain level of flexibility going in because the poses require it. Lastics teaches you how to develop your flexibility at any level.
Finally, yoga is a practice where one strives to achieve a desired end, whereas Lastics is more of a therapy where the end is increasing your flexibility, healing imbalances and learning to control your body through the use of small but mighty articulations.
Think of Lastics like conditioner. It "combs" out all the knots and kinks in your muscles and smooths out your energy too!
Try it! Here is a hamstring stretch that will surprise you!
Lastics is the only stretching method with transformational techniques that teach you how to significantly & safely improve your flexibility. Born from the world of dance and made for all levels, Lastics Stretch is loved by everyone!
