Stretch Toward a New Kind of Intimacy
It’s Valentine’s Day! It's the day of love when romance gets an official nod. So, in honor of Cupid, and all things intimate, take a second and consider these two things:
- The role of the pelvis in the act of lovemaking.
- The average pelvis is tight, stuck and fairly immobile.
This is where Lastics and a better love life come together.
First, realize that stretching means elongating. Second, understand that the muscles that cross over your hips are either at the bottom of a stretch for the upper body, or the top of a stretch for the lower body. So that means if you move your pelvis, you can reach muscles in a remarkably efficient way. But before you move it, you need to find, feel and articulate it. When you do, you discover a technique that has the power to effectively stretch your whole body by elongating your muscles from end-to-end.
Then there is energy. For most people there is a disconnect between the energy in their bodies and how they use it. This is one of the biggest hurdles when trying to increase flexibility because if you aren’t conscious of your energy, you can’t feel it, and if you can’t feel it you can’t control it. However, on the flip side, if you can control it, you can direct it, which enables you to exert tension at one end of a muscle so you can pull the other end away. Between those two points is where the deepest stretch occurs.
Try this and see what I mean:
Stand on straight legs. Be aware of how your legs feel in a naturally straight position and then bend over. From the hips to the top of your head, hang heavy. Locate your tailbone with your mind and then try to aim it diagonally up toward the sky. You should feel the tops of your hamstrings stretch along with the lower part.
Now, hang there and pull your belly high up into your spine, rounding it into as big a “C” curve as you can. Feel how the pelvis goes in the opposite direction and connects to the muscles in your lower back.
Play around with it, grab your Valentine, have him or her touch the areas you’re moving, engaging and feeling. Wake up the region - together - and just remember, your pelvis and your energy have everything to do with how you move, and that movement is how you get the most out of your stretch, and even more out of the bedroom.
Happy Valentine's Day!
